Beyond the number
An ID is only useful if someone can check it
A number printed on a PDF proves nothing on its own — anyone can copy it onto a fake certificate. CertificateJoy turns every ID into a real, hosted verification page with a QR code, so recipients and employers can confirm a credential is genuine in one scan. Want to try a QR code first? Use the free certificate QR code generator.
Frequently asked questions
What makes a good certificate ID format?
A good certificate ID is short, unique, and includes enough context to be useful on its own — typically an organization prefix, a year, and a sequential number, like ORG-2026-000142. Avoid formats that are easy to guess in sequence if the ID also acts as a lookup key.
Are these certificate IDs guaranteed to be unique?
Sequential IDs are unique within the batch you generate. Random IDs use enough characters that collisions are extremely unlikely, but this tool cannot check uniqueness against certificates you have already issued outside this session — keep a record of any IDs you have used before.
Can I use these IDs on certificates I already made in Canva or PowerPoint?
Yes. These IDs work as plain text on any certificate design. If you want each ID to resolve to a real, checkable verification page instead of just printed text, CertificateJoy generates one automatically when you issue a certificate.
Does a certificate ID alone prove a certificate is real?
No. On its own, an ID printed on a document proves nothing — anyone can copy the number onto a fake certificate. An ID only helps verification when it links to a hosted page or record the recipient or a checker can look up independently.
Is this tool free, and does it store my data?
Yes, it is completely free with no signup. Everything runs in your browser — the IDs you generate are not sent to or stored on any server.
